Shattered Dreams

Dreams never die. They just break into smaller pieces.

Today’s been a very music heavy day for me. And I realize my music snobbery is rising as well, as I spent about 5 minutes trying to find a youtube video of this song that didn’t have shitty bass encoded.

I failed at that btw. But ya, fuckin Ratatat. Beat is amazing.

Also, I’m slacking on my “what I did last week” post. I’ll get to it eventually. Might double up the weeks.

I really do love this a lot. Literally poetry in motion, and pretty much sums up the majesty of my world view. Yes, I like this because I agree with it. Fuck you too.

Stuff I Did for the week of 3/27/2011

Californication season finale was kind of amazing and kind of heart breaking. Needs more Carla Gugino. Everything needs more of her.

Watched District B-13, aka French Parkour movie. Plot was terrible in the worst way, was playing with my iPad when anyone was talking. The action was pretty good though.

Also watched 2 comedy specials cuz they were free on Amazon Instant Watch. Louis C.K.’s Chewed up is pretty fucking good. Galifanakis is his own kind of special too, on some show with a generic name.

Shameless season finale ended appropriately. I enjoyed it and was annoyed by it as much as I would have expected.

Archer was really fucking good. Didn’t top last week, but good christ, keep this going.

I watched 12 Monkeys for the first time and I don’t have to watch another time travel movie ever again. Terry Gilliam kinda did it right his first time. Really good sci fi.

Put time into Far Cry 2 on a whim. Was gonna start a new game and rock out like 45 minutes of it. Ended up playing for 2 and a half hours. That game is immersive as all fuck.

I put a lil bit of time into Radiant Historia. I need to square away a spare 4 or 5 hours and beat this shit already.

Played a lil Dirt 2 in trying to get a casual game I can poke my head in every couple days without feeling like I have any real goals other than “Play for a race.” Fucking gorgeous game. Fucking good game.

Also started The Witcher and got through the prologue of Metro 2033. Witcher seems interesting, but I’m deff still in the tutorial. Metro is CRAZY scripted, but I figure it hasn’t opened up just yet.

The new Super Meat Boy levels dropped and I tried to play a bit of that. The menu for it is broken on PC, but i did manage to play 4 or 5 levels. And not beat a single one. But I was inebriated at the time. That time may or may not be at the time of this writing. Yeah … .

I did also attend a Game Night put together by internet friends at the Fat Cat Bar. Stupid close to NYU, so it’s a college bar, but it rocks well. Had a good time drinking fake Heinie’s and playing cards with dudes.

Saw Source Code and that was as good as I expected from Duncan Jones. I love how he managed to patch up the plot hole I saw in the last 2 minutes of the movie. Really goddamn good though.

This is a thing I am excited for. If you like robots that blow shit up, you should be excited for it too.

Hawken. Day One.

When a song off a soundtrack comes on the playlist and you get transported to the state of mind you were in when you first watched the movie/tv show it’s from … That’s a good fucking soundtrack.

Just so you know.

Last Week for the week of 3/20/2011

Started rewatching Doctor Who from the Christopher Eccleston seasons. I liked him so much that I stopped watching when Tennant replaced him. People tell me I’m wrong for that. We shall see.

Californication was kinda heart wrenching. “Make me sad.” Worst way to initiate sex ever?

And Shameless, good fucking Christ, I knew that was gonna happen and I’m glad it was done in a way where he was still redeemable, but fuck … I didn’t want it to happen. Also, any excuse to get Emmy Rossum topless. There’s like a quota to fill on that fucking show. Not complaining though. Also, Pinky swears and “So? I’m into older women”. All I have to say.

Archer was amazing. It’s been pretty slow this season, but it redeemed itself forever with that one episode. “RAMPAGE!” is the new hot shit.

Community was pretty good. The stingers have been the best part of that show for a bit now though. Makes me wonder what they would be capable of with an anthology episode where they don’t focus on a story for more than 45 seconds. They experiment all the time with random nonsense, so this wouldn’t be that ridiculous.

I guess I also went to a club this week. That was a poor judgement call on my part. Absolutely nothing against the people I went with, but the club atmosphere just isn’t for me. Every single dude looks like a sexual predator to me. And the girls … well, I dunno. Clubs are places where conversation is not how you convince a girl to spend time with you and that’s the only way I know how. Not to mention that I don’t find dancing fun, in and of itself. So … no more. None of that nonsense for me. I’d rather pick your brain than spot your sweet dance moves. Just my preference. Take it or leave it.

I guess I helped build a computer. And realized that we ordered the wrong kind of CD Drive. And then realized we didn’t have a USB keyboard. Good times. We’ll finish that in a few days though. Also, this may or may not have caused me to pull the trigger on a new video card of my own. Fuckin a.

Also watched the last 3 weeks of Star Wars: Clone Wars. That cartoon continues to go to very dark places and isn’t afraid to shy away from death. The dialogue isn’t always what I’d call good, but the character interactions can be very interesting … if you give a damn about the Star Wars universe at all. I do wish they’d diverge from the canon a bit. I see them lay the seeds for the original trilogy’s nonsense, but I know who lives for that. The only characters’ lives that I worry about are the random  badass clones like Rex and Ahsoka, who has to die eventually, by Anakin/Vader’s hands if the story is to remain canon. That has to be the finally of the series, if they want to have done right by me. Which … they don’t really care. But I’m holding out hope.

Put about another hour into Radiant Historia. They force a lot of “Boss” Battles instead of making you wander through places and fight things. I don’t know if this is completely better, since its ridiculously linear, but I don’t hate it. So I guess there’s that.

Consumer Review for the week of 3/13/2011

Watched THE KILLER. Fucking doves and over the top firefights. It’s straight up ridiculous how many bullets will come out of a handgun in John Woo movies. He straight up invented the style that would dominate most of the rest of action movies out of Hollywood, though.

Random observation, Statham movies are basically British Jackie Chan who also shoots dudes proficiently.

Put some more time into Radiant Historia. Hit a wall in … I think it was the 4th or 5th Alternate History Chapter. Giant difficulty spike outta nowhere. W/e. I’ll get passed it in the next few days.

Watched new Archer, new Community, new Shameless, new Californication. Ranging from good to really good. Patiently waiting for my dramas to come back. Can I get some Mad Men up in this bitch?

That’s about it for the week.

Age and Imagery

There’s a lot of really cool imagery that’s outdated nowadays. The idea of a grandfather clock striking midnight is not something anyone under the age of 20 has probably ever seen outside of TV.

It occurs to me, however, that a lot of imagery that I recognize and even identify with, I probably have only ever seen on TV. I’m having trouble coming up with a really good example …

Meh, wandering thoughts of a madman with an utterly destroyed sleep schedule.

Someone should make a modern grandfather clock. I can see it in my head, stylistically, but I’m no goddamn artist.

Quick google search shows that they do exist, but fuck if they aren’t visually interesting. Gaudy, mostly.

Meh.

Wherein a man I have nothing but respect for talks eloquently about a game I have nothing but respect for. I fucking love Eric Wolpaw and Demon’s Souls. As far as Portal 2 goes, Valve already has my money.

In case you were wondering, space is amazing.
